 The Patient Care Technician program prepares an individual to perform delegated patient care activities, including activities of daily living and basic nursing care procedures required in a hospital environment. This program prepares an individual to take vital signs, perform blood draws and cauterization's, EKG's as well as assisting patients with daily activities. It further prepares an individual to pass the National Patient Care Technician certification exam.
Patient Care Tech Includes Medical Terminology/Abbreviations, Phlebotomy, EKG, CPR, Wound Care, Glucose Monitoring, Hemoccult Testing, Vital Signs and Isolation Techniques, Activities of Daily Living, Keto-Diastix Testing and more.
Overview The role of Patient Care Technician (PCT) includes duties traditionally performed by the staff from several different departments such as nursing, phlebotomy, EKG, and respiratory. The PCT is a multidisciplinary technical worker trained to provide basic nursing assistant care as well as other skilled function. The role is designed to facilitate the efficient delivery of care, support the professional role of the registered nurse, and to enhance patient satisfaction. There is an increasing need for cross-trained health care workers in all types of health care facilities. This Program builds upon the basic nurse aid skills to create a person with advanced skills. This is the latest trend in health care re-engineering. Patient Care Technicians can be employed in hospitals, long-term care facilities, physicians' offices, sports medicine facilities, ambulatory surgery centers, rehabilitation facilities, clinics, physical therapy department, industrial clinics, medical laboratories and walk-in treatment centers.
Course Description Under the supervision of a highly trained instructor, the student will receive proper training that emulates the environment and function that a PCT would encounter in a typical day. These practices complement classroom instruction as well as the internship experience. As per state requirements, the clinical portion of the class is conducted under the supervision of a highly trained instructor.
Total Course Hours : 305 Duration/Schedule:
- 3 Months - Monday thru Friday 8 am to 2 pm
- 5 Months - Monday thru Thursday 5 pm to 9 pm
